SMOTIES EU BEST PRACTICES EXPLORATION

The aim of this portal is to provide a common place for Human Cities Smoties partners to upload the data on the case studies within the activity WP2 – 2.4 - EU best practices exploration.

The information to be uploaded into this portal is the same as in the template that has been distributed to the partners in February 2021 (reffered to as The Template within this portal), but due to the technical requirements structured a bit differently in some sections. However the basic structure stays the same and has four sections:

  • Section A: the characteristics of the remote place and its public space(s) in general,
  • Section B: the public space(s) in focus of your case study – the characteristics of concrete space(s) in which creative work has been undertaken,
  • Section C: creative works with/in public spaces - activities, actors and participatory dimension, impact and lessons learnt,
  • Section D: supporting materials and additional sources of information.

Before you start filling-in the data you need to create your Case Study(ies) first – by clicking on the »Case Studies« button at the upper right corner of this page and choose »Case study« from the drop-down menue (be reminded that you need to be logged-in to see »Case Studies« button). You will then need to press the green button »Enter Case Study« () and set-up the case study by entering the most basic data. Repeat this as many times as needed, i.e. for as many case studies as you have. This will make the system aware of the number of case studies you will be dealing with (each partner provides at least 5 case studies).

Once the case studies will get known to the system you can start uploading the information for sections A, B, C and D –you can access them by clicking on the dark-yellow button button in the list of the case studies that you have generated previously - the system will redirect you to the section(s) A (and further B, C or D which you can access by »scrolling« to the right at the bottom of the page). When entering the section(s) A (B,C, D) sometimes you will need to refresh your browser page – depends on your browser; if this will be the case, the system will warn you in the reddish text-box.

Generally speaking there are two main buttons used throughout the portal – the »Magnifying glass« on the blue square () and the »Pencil« on the green square () – use the Pencil to be able to edit the data. In some cases the  button will re-appear within the (sub)sections too in the case that more than one entry is allowed/welcome (for example the links to the web pages with additional info on case studies, graphical materials etc.) .

Always when you browse for a graphics, press button »Upload« at the end, otherwise the graphics will not be stored within the portal.

Similarly, always (do not forget to) press the »Save« button once you finish working on the certain (sub)section, otherwise the data will not be saved and will be lost.

We assume you will be returning to the portal more than once in order to complete each case study – whenever you enter any of the sections (A, B, C or D) make sure that you firstly select the case study you want to work on – only then all the features of the portal will be enabled and fully functional.

We tried to keep the portal as easy to use as possible. If you are not used to this kind of data-uploading portals it may take a while that you get acquainted with it. May you have any technically-oriented questions please do not hesitate to contact Igor and similarly if you have any content-related questions please contact Matej and Nina.
